Former Thunder forward Josh Huestis is looking for an NBA comeback

Every now and then, a player gets cut loose from an NBA team and he’s floating out there looking for the next opportunity. For former Oklahoma City Thunder forward Josh Huestis, he’s found his next opportunity in the G League with the San Antonio Spurs affiliate, the Austin Spurs.

Huestis spent three seasons with the Thunder from 2015-18 where he played in 76 games and averaged 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 34.6 percent from the floor.

He was given a lot of opportunity in 2017-18 when he played in 69 games including 10 starts, but he wasn’t able to take advantage of it. Now playing for Austin, he now looks for the next moment to jump at.

“I’m just a glue guy,” Huestis said. “I see myself as a guy who can knock down open shots, play defense, be a blue-collar hard worker, and a good team guy.” It remains to be seen where Huestis’ professional journey takes him next. An invite to summer league with an NBA team could be on the horizon. Overseas is an option, as is the G League once again. But for now, he’s just trying to work on his game and show that he can be a legit NBA rotation player.

Here’s hoping that Huestis gets the next chance to prove himself.
