Former Thai politician apologises for shooting official in money row

  • A former Thai MP has claimed responsibility for a shooting at a local government office in Nonthaburi province.
  • Two people, a senior provincial official and his driver, were seriously injured in the attack outside the provincial office's building.
  • The alleged shooter, former politician Chalong Reawraeng, has been arrested by police.
  • His alleged target was Thongchai Yenprasert, president of the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation.
  • Reawraeng apologised to the family and friends of Mr Yenprasert in a press conference from the police station after he was arrested, calling him a “good friend” but saying he was angry with him for money-related issues.
