Former Houston Texans receiver Andre Johnson has been named as a nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2022 induction class.
Johnson is one of 122 nominees that were announced Wednesday. Hall of Fame voters will have to cut down from 122 to 25 semifinalists in November and then 15 finalists for January. During Super Bowl weekend in February, the new class will be announced, and Johnson could be among them.
The inaugural Texans Ring of Honor member caught 1,062 passes for 14,185 yards and 70 touchdowns through 193 games in the NFL, 169 of which were played in Houston. Johnson finished out his final 24 games with the Indianapolis Colts in 2015 and Tennessee Titans in 2016.
Houston drafted Johnson with the No. 3 overall pick from Miami in 2003. The former BCS National Champion went on to earn seven Pro Bowls, two first-team All-Pros, and led the NFL in receptions and receiving yards twice.
Other receivers up for nomination include Anquan Boldin, Troy Brown, Donald Driver, Henry Ellard, Devin Hester, Torry Holt, Joe Horn, Chad Johnson, Derrick Mason, Muhsin Muhammad, Andre Rison, Jimmy Smith, Rod Smith, Steve Smith, Hines Ward, Reggie Wayne, and Wes Welker.
