Former Texans director of football research Jim Bernhardt passes away

Former Houston Texans director of football research Jim Bernhardt has sadly passed away, the team announced Friday.

Coach Bill O’Brien has released a statement through Texans PR saying the following:

I’m saddened to learn about the passing of my friend and mentor, Jim Bernhardt. Jim was a fantastic coach and had a huge influence on my career. He was a wonderful father to his three boys, loving husband to his wife Catherine and a great friend to many. Jim had a tremendous impact on numerous players and coaches throughout his career. The Houston Texans extend their deepest condolences to the Bernhardt family. Jim will be missed.

Bernhardt spent four years on the Texans’ staff from 2014-17, during which the Texans compiled a regular season record of 31-33.

Back in 2014, the Orlando Sentinal spoke to and profiled Bernhardt just before joining the Texans stating the following:

“A former Hofstra lacrosse and football player who spent the past two years assisting at Penn State and had stints at Brown, UCF and area high schools.”

The Texans Wire sends our condolences to the Bernhardt family and their friends.
