Former team-mate backs Steven Gerrard to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Steven Gerrard will be ready to succeed Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

The Reds legend has gone done the management route after hanging up his boots in 2016, and is currently in the hotseat at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

Much has been said about about Gerrard eventually taking over as manager of the Reds in the future, with Klopp’s deal due to run out in 2024 after his contract was extended in December.

Redknapp, who played alongside Gerrard during his time at Anfield, believes the Liverpool icon has what it takes to succeed Klopp when the time eventually comes.

"I wasn't sure if Stevie would go into management,” Redknapp told The Lockdown Tactics podcast.

“It's a bit like Frank Lampard. They've both had great careers, won everything, and I could see them just doing punditry, take the easy option. But they haven't, they've gone it at the sharp end.

“Stevie is in Scotland and doing well. Yet, it's not easy because Celtic are so strong. But Stevie has got it, you can see that.

"I think a few years at Rangers, and as long as he doesn't make too many mistakes, it's only a question of time before he manages Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp decides to go.”
