FORT WORTH, Texas _ Former TCU wide receiver Kolby Listenbee and the university have settled lawsuits related to the former star's allegations of abuse and harassment during his time at the school.
The university and Listenbee filed almost simultaneous suits against one another in February 2018.
Listenbee's suit was filed in Dallas County against TCU coach Gary Patterson, the university and the Big 12 Conference. Listenbee claimed Patterson, assistant coaches and team doctors pressured him to play through injuries, which ultimately cut short his NFL career.
TCU had filed a suit in Tarrant County about an hour before Listenbee filed his lawsuit. The school claimed that it should be removed from Listenbee's lawsuit because the doctors were independent contractors.
The parties settled out of court on April 22 in Tarrant County. Details of the settlement were not available.
"Texas Christian University is pleased the matter has been resolved, and both parties have agreed to dismiss their respective lawsuits," TCU said in a statement.
Listenbee and his lawyer declined comment when reached by the Star-Telegram.
Listenbee was injured during a touchdown reception against SMU in September 2015 during his senior season. He alleges that Patterson, former offensive coordinator Doug Meacham and other coaches "continually harassed, humiliated, pressured and threatened" Listenbee after his injury diagnosis in an effort to force him to return to play quickly.
Listenbee argued this hurt his chances of making it in the NFL. The Buffalo Bills drafted him in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft, but Listenbee battled injuries and never made the roster. He went on to have stints with the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts, but was never promoted off the practice squad.
Listenbee, who was a football and track start at Arlington Bowie, was cut by the Colts in June 2018, and now describes himself as a "drone videographer" on his Twitter account.
Over 34 career games in his TCU career, Listenbee finished with 1,432 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. He also averaged more than 22 yards on kickoff returns.
