Former Tamil Nadu skipper S. Sharath will chair the National junior boys’ selection panel, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced in a statement on Friday.

Sharath, the first cricketer to play 100 Ranji Trophy matches for Tamil Nadu, has been appointed from the South Zone. The other members of the panel are former Madhya Pradesh pacer and coach Harvinder Singh Sodhi (Central), former Bengal swing bowler Ranadeb Bose (East), former Gujarat player Pathik Patel (West) and Punjab’s Kishan Mohan (North).

It’s a privilege and an honour: Sharath

The BCCI had invited applications for junior selectors last year but delayed the appointment as the domestic and international junior circuit was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the BCCI’s under-19 tournaments scheduled to start later this month, the appointment was formalised on Friday. The new panel will also be in charge of picking the squad for next year’s under-19 World Cup in the West Indies.

The junior selection committee: S. Sharath (South Zone), chairman; Pathik Patel (West); Ranadeb Bose (East); Kishan Mohan (North), and Harvinder Singh Sodhi (Central).
