After spending over three decades in Syrian prisons, Suheil Hamawi received a warm welcome in the northern Lebanese village of Chekka. The 61-year-old was among the thousands of prisoners released by Syrian rebels who seized Damascus and ousted former President Bashar al-Assad.
Returning home, Hamawi expressed his emotions, stating, 'It’s a very beautiful feeling, a truly beautiful feeling. I’ve discovered that love is still here, and family is still here.' His twin brother, Nicolas Hamawi, described Suheil as 'more than a hero' and expressed the joy of reuniting with him, likening it to being 'born again.'

Reflecting on the lost years, Nicolas shared, 'Thirty-three years went by in vain. We were reborn, like twins, truly twins in every sense of the word.' Suheil, on the other hand, realized the extent of time he had missed out on upon being called 'Grandpa' by his son's daughter, acknowledging the presence of grandchildren he had not been able to experience.
