Panathinaikos defender makes transfer decision amid Nottingham Forest link - report

Nottingham Forest were interested in Swedish full-back Mattias Johansson but the defender has opted to move to Genclerbirligi instead, according to reports.

Fotball Direkt claim the Reds were showing an interest in the 28-year-old but the player has since decided on a switch to Turkey.

Johansson has won three caps for his country having represented Sweden at under-17s, under-19s and under-21 level.

He has signed a two-year deal with Genclerbirligi after leaving Greek side Panthinaikos who are arch rivals of Olympiakos who are also owned by Reds supremo Evangelos Marinakis.

Johansson scored five goals in more than 60 appearances which had put clubs on red alert and played for AZ Alkmaar in the quarter finals of the Europa League.

Forest are hopeful they will not need to search for a right-back this summer, but much depends on the future of Matty Cash who has been linked with a clutch of Premier League clubs.

The defender has no desire to push for a move, but speculation has linked him with Sheffield United, West Ham, Fulham, Burnley and AC Milan and a host of other sides.

But Forest are standing firm in their valuation of the 23-year-old and it is claimed that the Reds will demand north of £15m before they even consider letting him leave the City Ground.
