Former Swansea 'gentleman's club' Studio 95 set to be turned into tourist hostel and bar

A well known Swansea business, described as a 'gentleman's club', looks set to be turned into a new tourist hostel and a bar.

Plans have been submitted to Swansea Council to transform the former Studio 95, which attracted a high level of interest when it went up for sale in August, into a place of temporary accommodation for tourists, along with a bar.

The transformation plans for the Mansel Street building, which operated in its former guise for two decades, have been submitted by Michael Border, of Downend in Bristol.

Planning documents submitted by agent, Creation Design Wales, read: "It is envisaged the property would be used to temporary accommodate tourists and visitors to the city.

"The ground floor will contain a bar, reception counter and TV lounge.

"There will be no change in appearance to the front or rear of the premises."

It adds that the new venture will create jobs, with full time staff for the hostel and bar, and part time cleaners, and adds that the scheme will support the local tourist economy.

It also states: "This scheme will improve the area rather than the former use of a gentleman's club."

An application will be made to Swansea Council for an alcohol and entertainment licence, covering the sale and supply of alcohol, certain types of entertainment, and late night refreshments at the premises, it adds.

The former business had been in operation for more than 20 years, but was vacated halfway through the coronavirus lockdown period.

It has "a number of cellular rooms", which are supported by ancillary offices, toilet facilities and a small kitchen.

Back in April, 2014, WalesOnline reported how a man assaulted three people, two female employees and a fellow customer, at the former business on Christmas morning as he was unhappy with the 'service' he was being offered.
