Former Swansea City star Wilfried Bony training with Newport County

Wilfried Bony has been training with Newport County as he continues to search for a new club after being released by Swansea City.

The striker spent the latter half of the 2018/19 campaign on loan with Qatari outfit Al-Arabi and officially left the Swans when his contract with the club expired in June.

Having featured for Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier this summer, Bony recently returned to Swansea in a bid to get himself in top shape with a view to finding a new club.

In an exclusive interview with WalesOnline, the 30-year-old revealed he is undergoing a brutal training regime with a personal trainer to ensure he is in peak condition.

And it's been revealed that Bony has been training with League Two outfit Newport as part of his new individual programme.

County boss Michael Flynn confirmed the news by posting a picture of himself with Bony and Newport forward Tristan Abrahams online.

Writing on his official Twitter account, Flynn said: "Great to have Wilfried Bony training with us, excellent work ethic, professionalism and standards. Boys will take a lot from this."

Bony had nine months on the sidelines last year after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in February.

He returned to action for the Swans in November, featuring seven times under Graham Potter before moving to Qatar.

On his future, Bony said last week: "I'm a free agent now so I'm following a programme of training, and I'll have meetings with my agent to see if anything concrete comes in and then we'll sit and talk about my future.

"There's been plenty of talking but nothing concrete yet.

"I don't know what the future holds so every opportunity that arises, I will sit with my agent and discuss it."
