Former Swansea City and Man Utd star's second chance for untapped talent backed by Gary Neville

Former Swansea City youngster Febian Brandy is giving untapped talent a second chance to make their way in the game.

The attacker joined the Swans on loan from Manchester United in 2008 and played a part in helping Roberto Martinez's side gain promotion from League One.

However, after being released by the Red Devils in 2010, Brandy operated significantly further down the football pyramid before eventually quitting the game aged just 29 at the end of the 2017/18 season.

He swiftly turned his attentions to helping others in their quest to avoid the footballing scrapheap by setting up Skouted - a social network aimed at giving a second chance to players bidding to make their way in the game.

Working in collaboration with Loughborough University student and rugby player Keita Orelaja, entrepreneur Raj Sharma and CTO Harjot Singh, Brandy set up the football scheme and is now preparing for a UK-wide event that will place players aged between 18 and 23 in front of top Premier League, EFL and National League scouts.

"As a former professional footballer myself I know how hard it is to get scouted so instead of waiting for scouts to find you, we will be bringing the scouts to you in one place," said Brandy.

"This is the first Skouted trial event where players from all over the UK will be competing against each other in front of scouts from the Premier League, the EFL and the National League.

"On the events, players will attend a full training session in the morning that will be taken by UEFA licensed coaches, high quality and intense training sessions that will be watched by the scouts then there will be a round robin tournament in the afternoon.

"The aim of this event is to give football players who are trying to find a professional club the opportunity to impress in front of professional football clubs to rejuvenate their careers or to simply start their careers as a professional footballer."

The scheme has been backed by United legend Gary Neville who wrote on Twitter: "Make sure you apply if you fancy a chance to rejuvenate your career!"

The events will take place across the UK later this month, with Cardiff's trial being held on Sunday, July 18.

London (Saturday, July 17), Leeds (Saturday, July 24) and Manchester (Sunday, July 25) will all host events before the final one takes place at England's St. George's Park training base on Saturday, July 30.
