Former Swansea City and Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers reveals three Leicester City players have shown coronavirus symptoms

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that three members of his Leicester City squad have displayed mild symptoms of coronavirus.

All three of the players in question have undergone testing for the virus, with results expected tomorrow, and are already in self-isolation.

Speaking ahead of his side's clash with Watford this weekend, Rodgers said: "We've had a few players that have shown symptoms and signs (of coronavirus).

"We’ve followed procedures and (as a precaution) they have been kept away from the squad."

The news is likely to increase the pressure on football bosses to take action, with leagues already suspended in Italy and Spain, while games in France and Germany are currently taking place behind closed doors.

As things stand, this weekend's run of Premier League and EFL games will proceed as normal, but that stance could well change within the next 24 hours.

The UK government is holding a Cobra meeting to examine what action to take in response to the outbreak, with the number of confirmed cases edging close to 500.

One of the measures reportedly being considered is the possibility of triggering plans for all matches in England and Wales to be played behind closed doors. You can follow live updates here

Speaking about the potential effect of the outbreak on the football calender, Rodgers continued: "Of course, from a football perspective, it would be a shame, but the public’s health is the most important aspect in all of this.

"Working in football, it’s about having that agility to move with what’s happening in football.

"We’re guided by football and federations. We have to press on with our work and prepare as normal.

"The game is all about the players and the fans.

"If you have one of those not there, it’s obviously not the same."
