Former Swansea City and Aston Villa striker Borja Baston secures return to Spain

Former Swansea City striker Borja Baston has returned to Spain after joining Leganes.

The Spanish striker had left the Swans in January to join Aston Villa a free transfer.

However, appearances at Villa Park were few and far between - with the forward making just two appearances and playing a meagre 18 minutes for the club

As a result, he was released by Villa in June and the 28-year-old has now returned to his homeland with the recently-relegated Leganes.

Baston will be hoping for a change of fortunes to a career that has struggled to live up to the club record £15.5m fee that Swansea splashed out for him back in 2016.

After a strong season on loan with Eibar, Francesco Guidolin signed the striker from Atletico Madrid - with fans in SA1 expecting big things.

However, it didn't work out for Baston at the Liberty Stadium - scoring just once in 20 appearances in his first season at the club.

The following two seasons saw him spend time on loan at Malaga and Alaves - but his scoring touch was still missing, managing just seven goals across the two campaigns.

The start of last season did promise a bit more, with Baston scoring six in 21 appearances under Steve Cooper - but none of the goals came after the month of September, which led to the disappointing move to Villa.
