Former Sunderland prospect Joe Hugill scores twice on his Manchester United debut

Former Sunderland prospect Joe Hugill scored twice on his youth debut for Manchester United.

The 16-year-old made the switch from Wearside to the Red Devils this summer along with fellow former Black Cats youngster Logan Pye.

The pair were free to leave Sunderland as they had yet to sign pro deals at the club, but the club expect to receive six-figure fees in compensation for both players.

Hugill wrote he was "over the moon" to make the move to United, and he enjoyed a dream debut for the under-18s in a 2-1 victory against Blackburn Rovers.

The teenager opened the scoring in the 29th minute with an emphatic strike from distance, while the second saw him apply a cool finish to a move in the 74th minute.

Following the move this summer, Hugill posted on Instagram: "Over the moon to have finally signed for the biggest club in the world Manchester United. Proudest moment in my career so far!

"I can’t wait to get down and started, would also like to thank everyone at Sunderland, especially the coaches and players who have helped me along the way and for so many memorable moments on and off the pitch and for all the achievements over the years.

"Looking forward to the challenge ahead and the season starting."
