Former Sunderland Managing Director finds new role four months after leaving the Stadium of Light

Former Sunderland Managing Director Tony Davison has found a new role, four months after leaving the Stadium of Light.

Davison left Sunderland in October with all parties feeling it was the 'right time to part ways' and he has now been appointed as the Commercial Director of Premiership Rugby side Northampton Saints.

Welcoming him to the club, Saints Chief Executive Mark Darbon said: "I am very pleased to welcome Tony to Saints at an exciting time for the Club.

"We are in the middle of a five-year strategic plan to bring the Club back to profitability and Tony will play a key role in realising this ambition.

"He brings with him a huge wealth of knowledge and experience, and we look forward to having him apply his extensive industry expertise at Saints."

Following  Stewart Donald's takeover of the club, Davison was appointed to the board at  the club in the summer of 2018. As part of his role within the club he oversaw the commercial operations and played a huge role in bringing a live concert back to the Stadium of Light, with Spice Girls playing last year.

Davison is, of course, a lifelong Sunderland supporter and famously once portrayed club mascot Samson the Cat on match days, rising up through the club to become a marketing and sponsorship executive before his departure in 2005 to take up a role at Wembley Stadium.

He had worked with Charlie Methven and Donald prior to their arrival at Sunderland in May 2018. He served as commercial director at Oxford United between 2013-15, and was previously a director at Methven's Dragon Advisory PR company.

Prior to his return to the Black Cats last summer he spent three years with Tottenham Hotspur in their commercial department, helping to oversee the club's transition into their new state of the art stadium.
