Former Sunderland manager Roy Keane odds-on favourite to become next Celtic boss

Roy Keane is the leading contender with the bookmakers to become the next permanent Celtic manager - with one bookmaker suspending bets.

Betfair have suspended betting on Keane after a series of bets on the Irishman.

The former Sunderland boss is odds-on favourite with the other bookmakers, with SkyBet offering just 1/2 on him to take over at Parkhead.

John Kennedy is currently in charge of the Scottish giants, who saw Glasgow rivals Rangers clinch the league title earlier this month.

He took over in a caretaker capacity after Neil Lennon left the club in February.

Now Manchester United and Republic of Ireland legend Keane has been installed as the favourite to take the role on full-time.

Keane, who managed Sunderland from 2006 to 2008, has not been involved in football since leaving his role as assistant manager of Nottingham Forest in 2019.

He worked under Martin O'Neill as the Ireland No 2 for five years, but has not managed in his own right since leaving Ipswich in 2011.

Keane led Sunderland to promotion from the Championship in his first season, but left after reported differences with then owner Ellis Short.

In a long career, he starred for Forest and Manchester United, before ending his career with 13 appearances for Celtic in 2006.
