Former Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia leaves Manchester United

Former Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia has lost his job as Manchester United's Under-23 boss and is the first victim in a summer shake-up at Old Trafford.

The 62-year-old was his second spell with the Red Devils after helping unearth the likes of Darren Fletcher and Kieran Richardson when he was in charge of the club's reserve team between 2002-2005, having joined United from Sunderland.

Sbragia then rejoined Sunderland's coaching staff in November 2007, and was appointed as caretaker manager following the departure of Roy Keane just over a year later.

The Scot went on to guide the Black Cats to Premier League safety before resigning from his role following his side's final game of the season against Chelsea.

But after only managing to guide United's second string to a sixth place finish in Premier League Two, Sbragia has now paid the price for his side's poor season.
