Former Sunderland forward Joel Asoro leaves Swansea City

Former Sunderland forward Joel Asoro has left Swansea City after two-and-half seasons.

Asoro made the switch to the Liberty Stadium from Sunderland in 2018 for a reported fee of £2million.

The Swedish youth international struggled to nail down a place in the Swans first team and was shipped out on loan to FC Groningen and Serie A side Genoa - where he failed to make a single appearance in the first part of the current campaign.

The former Black Cats striker made just 18 appearances following his arrival from the Stadium of Light, the most recent of those against Newport County at the start of this season.

The 21-year-old has now joined Swedish side Djurgardens IF for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance.

It comes after Steve Cooper revealed he would not include Asoro in his Jack’s squad for the remainder of the Championship campaign.

He returns to his homeland to link up with the Swedish top-flight club, with their transfer window still open ahead of the start of the Allsvenskan season.
