Former Sunderland CEO Martin Bain lands new role in football

Former Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain has landed a new role in football.

Bain has been out of football since leaving Sunderland in May 2018 in the aftermath of Stewart Donald's takeover of the club.

The 51-year-old spent two years at the Stadium of Light at the end of former owner Ellis Short's reign and was at the helm during the club's back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One.

But now the former Rangers and Maccabi Tel-Aviv CEO is back in football, having been appointed CEO of Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL), the company in charge of running the Indian Super League.

Speaking about his appointment, Bain said: "Indian football has progressed rapidly over the last few years. The world has taken notice of India and the potential it holds.

"I am very eager at the prospect of what the Indian football can achieve under the guidance of Mrs. Nita Ambani and I am immensely happy to be presented with this opportunity to work on her vision for the sport in the country."

FSDL chairperson Nita Ambani added: "I welcome Martin to India and at FSDL. Martin brings with him vast experience of being a successful administrator and I am sure his know-how of the global sport will immensely help the Indian football."
