Former Sunderland boss Roy Keane 'blanked' for Celtic job

Former Sunderland boss Roy Keane has been 'blanked' by Scottish giants Celtic, according to reports.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon says the former Black Cats boss was interested in the vacancy but hasn't been considered by the Scottish Premiership side.

Keane has had almost a decade out of the managerial hot seat, with his last managerial role coming at Ipswich in 2011.

The 49-year-old has worked as an assistant at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and most recently with the Republic of Ireland national team.

The Hoops are still trying to fill the managerial void left by Neil Lennon, who resigned back in February.

There have been a number of high profile managers touted for the role including former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.

It seemed like the former Cherries boss was a certainty for the role last month, but negotiations are still rumbling on behind the scenes.

The Celts finished 25 points behind Steven Gerrard's Rangers side who romped to the SPL title, enjoying an unbeaten campaign.
