Former Sunderland boss David Moyes tipped for Premier League return

David Moyes has been linked with a return to his former club West Ham - should Manuel Pellegrini get the sack at the London Stadium.

The Hammers lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace on Boxing Day, and The Times report this morning that the Chilean manager has just two games to save his job.

Ex-Sunderland manager Moyes is the man they have linked with replacing Pellegrini in East London, in what would be a strange return following his exit in 2018.

Moyes had a six-month spell in charge of West Ham in the 2017/18 season, but the club opted not to retain his services at the end of the campaign, turning instead to Pellegrini, who had previously won the Premier League title with Manchester City.

However, the Scot had impressed the Hammers' hierarchy during his time at the club and, despite his failings at Sunderland, they are reportedly weighing up reappointing him should their poor form continue.

Moyes managed the Black Cats for one solitary season in 2016-17, as they were relegated from the Premier League following a nightmare campaign.

He famously admitted in the opening weeks of the season that his side faced a relegation battle, something which infuriated fans at the time.

He won just eight of his games while in charge on Wearside, with a win percentage of just 18.6 per cent.

West Ham host Leicester City on Saturday (December 29), before facing Bournemouth at home on New Year's Day.
