Former Sunderland assistant manager Steve Cotterill re-admitted to hospital with Covid-pneumonia

Former Sunderland assistant manager Steve Cotterill has been re-admitted to hospital with Covid-pneumonia over the course of the weekend.

The current Shrewsbury Town boss has just come out of hospital following a long battle with Covid-19.

Cotterill spent 33 days in Bristol Royal Infirmary Hospital and spent a time in intensive care.

There were positive signs that the 56-year-old was on the road to recovery when he was released from hospital last month, he was set to undergo a rehabilitation period at home and would continue his managerial duties from afar.

Salop's current assistant manager, Aaron Wilbraham, who has been in caretake charge of the Shrews in Cotterill's absence said: "For somebody who has never missed a day's work in his life, this will hit the Manager really hard. He's one of the strongest and toughest people I know, and I know he'll get through this Covid-pneumonia."

A club statement wished Cotterill "all the best in his recovery" and would not be making any further comments at this time.
