Former Strictly star Mollie King posts emotional message about bittersweet first Christmas with baby daughter

The Saturdays singer and Radio 1 presenter Mollie King has extended her love and support to those who have lost a loved one in 2022 as she detailed in an Instagram post her fears of sitting down at the Christmas table with "one chair less" after her own father passed away shortly after her baby daughter was born.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant gave birth to baby daughter Annabella, who she shares with her fiancé, cricketer Stuart Broad, at the end of November. She announced the news on Instagram on Thursday, November 24 and less than a week later, she posted a heartbreaking tribute to her father, who had died following a brain tumour.

On Wednesday, December 28, the 35-year-old reflected on her baby's first Christmas, detailing the lovely moments as well as saying: "I know I’m not the only one who will be missing a loved one this Christmas and my heart goes out to anyone who’s also going through this."

Alongside four pictures and a video, the mum-of-one wrote: "This year, more than ever, I’ve been so grateful to be surrounded by my family at Christmas time.

"For me it’s been mixed emotions heading up to Christmas Day as I’ve feared all of us sitting down for lunch and having one chair less without our Pops at the table. I know I’m not the only one who will be missing a loved one this Christmas and my heart goes out to anyone who’s also going through this.

"I’ve kept reminding myself how lucky I am to be surrounded by so many of the people I love and without a doubt the constant chatter from the little ones, seeing Annabella laugh for the first time, countryside walks and Home Alone on repeat made sure we all created more special memories, and most importantly, that my little girl’s Christmas was magical, just as it should be.

"Thank you Mum for getting us all together. Sending so much love to anyone else going through this at this time xx"

Mollie's commnents were soon flooded with heartfelt messages, Christmas wishes and support, with many opening up about their own experiences with loss and how to cope during this time.

Fellow Radio 1 DJ Katie Thistleton said: "Such a beautiful family. Love you xxxx" as well as user @katej4040 who added: "Lost my dad 2021. Don’t think you will ever get over it, but time makes it a little bit easier. He will be with you in your hearts forever."

Another, @sleepydoe_bath, also wrote: "The third picture nursing together, so so sweet!! The hardest part of loosing someone is learning to live without them sending love and healing" alongside @gemma474 who commented: "Similar for me this year, thank you for explaining how it is - love to you and your family, here’s to new memories! Xx"
