Former Stoke City and Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis on the key factor behind Steve Cooper's impressive start at Swansea City

Former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis lavished praise on Steve Cooper for keeping Swansea City's identity since taking charge of the club in the summer.

The Swans finished 10th in what was a transitional season under Graham Potter last term.

And Cooper saw key players including Oli McBurnie and Daniel James depart in the summer ahead of his debut campaign in senior management.

Despite those blows, Cooper has enjoyed a fine start to life as Swansea head coach, with his side currently sitting in fourth place in the Championship with 16 games gone.

And Welshman Pulis believes Cooper's intent on sticking to the club's famed philosophies has been key to their impressive start to the 2019/20 campaign.

"I've been really impressed with Swansea," Tony Pulis said on EFL Quest.

"I think Steve has done a great job. He's kept the identity of the football club and the way the team plays.

"Their results and performances this season have been fantastic. I don't think anybody thought that Swansea would be as good at getting the results they have so far."

Swansea face Millwall at the Liberty Stadium on November 23 in what will be their first fixture after the break.
