Per the NFL transaction wire, #49ers were awarded DE James Lockhart off waivers from Pittsburgh. Lockhart, who had six sacks last year at Baylor, went undrafted in April. The 49ers are low on DEs with Bosa, Ford and Blair injured and with Jonathan Kongbo recently waived/injured.

I was surprised and disappointed when the Pittsburgh Steelers waived defensive lineman James Lockhart this week. Lockhart showed a ton of potential at Baylor and looked like a great player to stash away on the newly expanded practice squad.
But instead of Lockhart sticking with the Steelers, he never even made it back to being a street free agent. According to the NFL transaction wire, the San Francisco 49ers claimed Lockhart off waivers to help bolster depth.
The Steelers added Lockhart as an undrafted free agent but had been largely silent during training camp. The Steelers remain thin at edge rusher and could be a buyer in free agency when teams start trimming their rosters.
