Former Steeler David DeCastro at peace with his career

The Pittsburgh Steelers released All-Pro guard David DeCastro after nine seasons and he will finish his career with the Steelers as arguably the second-best guard in franchise history.

The release was happened due to an ongoing ankle injury that will require surgery. This leaves DeCastro’s future with the NFL in question but it sounds like he is ok with that if it happens. DeCastro spoke to the Post-Gazette not long after his release and talked about his future.

“Gotta see how the surgery goes,” DeCastro said. “But I’d have no problem calling it a day and moving on with my life.”

A very pragmatic point of view from DeCastro and really the only response he could give. DeCastro had perhaps the worst season of his career in 2020 and with a massive pending payday for the upcoming season, he had to know there was the potential of a parting of ways.
