It seems there is no shortage of former Pittsburgh Steelers willing to come out of the woodwork for a few minutes of fame at the expense of current members of this franchise. The latest is former Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Sanders went on 93.7 The Fan on Friday and told his version of a story of when offered Sanders a contract he didn’t think was fair.
According to Sanders, the deal was back in 2014 and was for three years and $9 million and Sanders told general manager Kevin Colbert he wasn’t going to take it. This is where the story takes a turn. According to Sanders, Colbert disrespected him. “I went into Kevin Colbert’s office”, Sanders said. “And said, ‘I don’t want to take the deal.’ He looks at me and he goes, ‘Who do you think you are, Antonio Brown?’
Could this have really happened? It’s impossible to know for sure. Many members of the local Pittsburgh media have stepped up to defend Colbert, saying this isn’t the type of person Colbert is. Sanders might just be the latest disgruntled former Steeler to decide to pile on. But even if Colbert did say it, is too much being made of his words without having more context as to how Sanders spoke in the meeting?
