Former St Mirren winger Ilkay Durmus joins Polish top flight side Lechia Gdansk

Ex- St Mirren winger Ilkay Durmus has found a new home after leaving Paisley.

The 27-year-old was offered a new deal by Saints boss Jim Goodwin but decided he wanted to move away from Scotland to be nearer to home.

The Turkey under-20 international has now penned a two-year deal with Polish top flight side Lechia Gdansk.

Speaking to the club's website, he said: "When I received the offer, my agent gave me a closer look to the league and the club itself.

"Everything he said was very positive, so I'm glad that I was able to join Lechia.

"I am looking forward to my first training session."

Durmus spent two years with the Buddies, making 39 appearances in the stripes last season and netting a superb winner at Celtic Park in the league.

Nicknamed 'Silky Ilkay' by some Saints fans, he also scored an emphatic opener against Aberdeen in the club's 2-1 League Cup victory over the Dons during the last campaign.

Goodwin has also lost another winger from his side after Dylan Connolly left to sign for Northampton Town earlier this week.
