Former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga's latest picture shocks the internet

Sri Lanka's former captain Arjuna Ranatunga, who led his country to their maiden ODI World Cup triumph in 1996, has shocked the cricket world with his latest image that shows him to have lost weight to the point of being almost unrecognizable.

Ranatunga's transformation, which is visible in an image on social media along with India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Devi, has left the internet dazed.

"I'm not ready to believe it's him," reacted a user on X.

After quitting cricket, Ranatunga took a plunge into politics and was also a Member of Parliament. The former SL skipper was also credited for the team's change in batting approach at the top of the order, when Sanath Jayausuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharna were promoted as openers in ODIs and given the license to go after the bowlers.

Meanwhile, India will be touring the island nation for a white-ball tour as its next international assignment, which will also signal the start of Gautam Gambhir's stint as India's head coach.

Gambhir has replaced Rahul Dravid in the position following India's victorious T20 World Cup campaign last month.

India will play three T20Is and as many ODIs on the tour that begins with the first T20I on July 27.
