Former Spurs stars insists the new stadium is not enough as they send transfer plea to Levy

Tottenham Hotspur have made strides in their bid to join the elite of European football in recent years on and off the field but two former stars insist there is still an important step to take.

Both Robbie Keane and Jamie Redknapp were speaking ahead of Spurs’ first home match at their new stadium against Crystal Palace on Wednesday when they analysed what the club must do to move forward.

Spurs have enjoyed three consecutive top-three finishes under current boss Mauricio Pochettino but have failed to land silverware.

Five things we noticed about the opening ceremony at Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium

The aforementioned duo feel that the move into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a big step for the club but that they must also splash the cash on signings to take meaningful steps forward.

“Spurs have been waiting a long time for this but they have to also bring in players to kick on,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“I believe the manager will be backed in the summer and they need three or four top players."

Redknapp echoed Keane’s thoughts by adding: “They have the stadium and the manager but now they have to bring in new signings and pay the big wages to really compete.

"The stadium is a start, though.”
