Former Spurs star explains why Tyrone Mings would be the perfect fit for Tottenham

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to sign Tyrone Mings as they look to deal with the uncertainly over Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen's future.

The duo are out of contract at the end of the season and show little sign of agreeing a new deal in North London, meaning that Spurs face the prospect planning for a future without them.

Mings has been outstanding since arriving at Aston Villa in January this year and showed his class with an impressive England display in difficult circumstances against Bulgaria.

The defender showed real maturity and leadership in Sofia, and the former Tottenham goalkeeper said he could be the perfect candidate to come to Spurs.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I like Tyrone Mings at Aston Villa, I think he’s been outstanding. I think the way he’s been given his England debut this week is no coincidence to his performances.

“I watched him a lot for Aston Villa last year in the Championship and for whatever reason, it didn’t happen at Bournemouth but he seems to have found a home at Villa.

“I think his ability in the air is outstanding, his distribution with his feet, and the fact for me that he’s a left-footed centre half.

“It was always difficult as a goalkeeper when you play with two centre-halves who were right-footed, neither one really seemed comfortable on the left-hand side of the two but he gives you that option as well.”
