Former Spurs chairman names prime candidate for manager amid long search

Former Spurs chairman Lord Alan Sugar has offered his favoured candidate to take the reins at the North London club.

Ever since the sacking of Jose Mourinho in April, Tottenham have struggled to find a man to take over with moves for Antonio Conte, Gennaro Gattuso and Paulo Fonseca, amongst others, failing to come to fruition.

The latest name in the ring for the job is former Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

football.london understands talks have taken place between the north London outfit and the Portuguese but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be done.

Despite the reports surrounding Espirito Santo, Lord Alan Sugar has named his preferred candidate as current Italy boss Roberto Mancini.

Taking to Twitter, The Apprentice guru encouraged Mancini to quit his national team role after claiming Euro 2020 and make the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium his next destination.

The former Manchester City man has hugely impressed with his country since his appointment in 2018.

Of the 36 matches he has overseen, the Italians have won 27 of those, losing just two.

As a matter of fact, the 56-year-old have broken Italy’s 82-year long unbeaten record by going 31 games in all competitions without a defeat.

They secured that fantastic feat by progressing to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory against Austria and will now face Belgium as they aim to reach the last four.

Mancini was hugely successful in his prior stint in the Premier League, lifting Manchester City’s first title since 1968, as well as the FA Cup.
