Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino 'wants' Manchester United job

Mauricio Pochettino enjoyed five-and-a-half good years at Tottenham.

But following a poor start to the 2019/20 season he was sacked by Spurs just under two weeks ago.

Pochettino guided Spurs to four consecutive top-four finishes, turning the club into Premier League title challengers and took them to the Champions League final last season.

But the good run ended this year and he was replaced by Jose Mourinho in N17.

Pochettino had been linked with plenty of jobs during his time at Spurs, namely the roles at Manchester United and Real Madrid, while there have been further links with the likes of Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich since his departure from Spurs.

Speaking last week from back in his home country of Argentina, Pochettino said he was ready to get back into management.

He said: "There are a lot of clubs and attractive projects for me to take on.

"But, for the time being, the most important thing is for me to clear my head after five-and-a-half incredible seasons with Tottenham.

"It is my intention to return to manage in Europe. It is hard for me to imagine a project in Argentina. However, for the sake of my family, I would not refuse to work over here.

"But now I need to be calm for a few days and see what happens. I haven't had a lot of time to digest what has happened with me."

And a new job in the Premier League could be just around the corner.

He has previously been linked with the Manchester United job and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under huge pressure, with reports that defeat at home to Tottenham on Wednesday night could be the final straw for the Red Devils' board.

And according to our friends at the Manchester Evening News , Pochettino 'wants' the United job.

In an exclusive story, the MEN say: "The MEN understands Pochettino ,  recently sacked by Tottenham Hotspur, remains enchanted by the prospect of managing United after he was originally earmarked as Jose Mourinho's successor last season."
