Former Spurs boss makes Pep Guardiola comparison as he backs Frank Lampard to succeed at Chelsea

Harry Redknapp insists that Frank Lampard does not need any advice from him as he embarks on his role at Chelsea.

The Blues legend was appointed as Chelsea's new head coach earlier this week, with the 41-year-old signing a three-year deal to return to the club where he became the record goalscorer.

And Redknapp feels he has what it takes to be a success at Stamford Bridge, despite having only one year in management at Derby County.

Indeed, the former West Ham and Tottenham boss has made a comparison between Lampard and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

"These opportunities don't come along every day, so when an opportunity like this comes up to manage a club like Chelsea, you have to grab it with both hands," he told Sky News.

"He is ready, I have got no doubts about that. Look at Pep Guardiola, he was a great player at Barcelona and then came back and managed them, and he had a great time there.

"He [Lampard] understands the game and he has a real touch of class about him. Everyone says he has been the best trainer, he knows what it takes.

"It will be great for the young players to have that opportunity to play in the first team, but with the embargo Frank will give those kids a chance.

"Pep went almost straight in at Barcelona, so it is not a problem. We all get carried away about geniuses and tacticians, he understands the game and he was a great player. Football is his life and he understands all that there is to know about the game, I don't see it being a problem.

But does Lampard need the advice of his uncle, who has managed at West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham, among other clubs?

Not according to the experienced manager, who says he feels fourth place will be a successful first season for Lampard and the Blues.

"Frank doesn't need my help. He's a very smart lad," said Redknapp.

"He knows the game in and out, his father played football for 20 years.

"He is so thorough and so professional in everything he does, and he will leave no stone unturned in trying to be successful at Chelsea.

"This could be a new dawn for Chelsea with young kids getting a chance to show what they can do."
