Former Spartan Bennie Fowler on how workout with Drew Brees led to signing with New Orleans Saints

After spending the 2014-17 NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent, former Michigan State Spartan wide receiver Bennie Fowler has bounced around a bit looking for his next big opportunity. At the end of July, Fowler found that opportunity when he was signed by the New Orleans Saints. On Thursday, Fowler explained how a workout with Drew Brees, coordinated by fellow Saints wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, led to the signing.

In the video, which you can watch below, Fowler explains how COVID-19 prevented him from working out for teams, leaving him without a team heading into training camps. Emmanuel Sanders, who Fowler played with on the Broncos, reached out and helped him set up a workout with Drew Brees, who was apparently so impressed by Fowler that he made some calls which led to Fowler’s signing:

Great story from a Spartan dawg who has managed to go from an undrafted free agent to a veteran in the NFL.
