Former SP MP, kin held in ticket aspirant’s murder case in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: Balrampur police on Monday arrested former Samajwadi Party MP Rizwan Zaheer, his daughter (Zeba) and her husband Rais, along with three others for the murder of former chairman of Tuslipur Nagar Panchayat Feroz Pappu.

The murder, according to the police, was a result of rivalry related to 2022 Assembly elections. Police have also arrested former MP’s three associates who were involved in the murder.

Feroz was killed near his home in Tulsipur on January 4 evening.

SP Balrampur, Hemant Kutiyal, said Rizwan Zaheer was lobbying for a ticket from the Samajwadi Party for his daughter from Tulsipur assembly seat in Vidhan Sabha polls. Feroz was also pursuing his candidature from the same seat from SP.

“Rizwan Zaheer through his sources in the party came to know that Feroz was likely to get the ticket for Tulsipur seat as his wife Kehkasha was also the sitting Nagar Panchayat chairperson and the couple had nurtured the constituency for quite some time. Hence, Rizwan Zaheer got Firoz eliminated,” said the SP.
