Former South Ayrshire care home with tragic recent past will be turned into new properties

A former care home in Ayrshire – where eight residents tragically lost their lives during a Covid outbreak – will be turned into 11 new residential properties.

Alloway's Rozelle Holm Farm will be transformed after the new owners were granted planning permission this week for a change of use at the site by South Ayrshire Council.

There will be a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes at the location, while the original cottages will be retained.

Among the changes, which are necessary to reconfigure the site into the new homes, will be the removal of a large conservatory, while a glazed link, storage shed and various small extensions are also expected to be removed.

The buildings will then be sub-divided and upgraded.

According to the design statement from LMA Architects, the aim is to convert and upgrade the existing buildings to form 11 ”high quality residential mews-style units” along with associated car parking, gardens and amenity spaces.

In April, Ayrshire Live told how Rozelle had been sold for housing in a seven-figure deal, changing hands for around £1.25 million.

The former 38-bed care home, run by businessman Forbes Robertson, closed permanently at the beginning of 2021 following the impact of Covid.

Eight residents tragically lost their lives during an outbreak of the virus, with care inspectors blasting “serious failings” among staff within the home.

New owners, Jab Property Developments Ltd, a firm based in the north-east of Scotland, say they will “tastefully” redevelop the site.
