Former SNP press chief to write weekly column for Sunday Times

Kevin Pringle
Pringle’s column will start during the SNP autumn conference

The Sunday Times has signed the Scottish National Party’s former press chief to write a weekly column for its Scottish edition.

The newspaper has hired Kevin Pringle, the former strategic communications director at the SNP, with his first column due to be published on Sunday to coincide with the SNP’s autumn conference in Aberdeen.

Pringle was previously a senior special adviser to former first minister of Scotland Alex Salmond and also advised his successor, Nicola Sturgeon.

“It’s a terrific coup to have Kevin joining us to stimulate debate and share the unique insights he’s gained from many years at the heart of Scottish politics,” said Jason Allardyce, Sunday Times Scotland editor.

Pringle left his role at the SNP in June and joined communications consultancy Charlotte Street Partners, which is based in Edinburgh and London, as a partner in August.

The company was founded last year by BAA’s former communications director, Malcolm Robertson, and the former head of group communications at RBS, Andrew Wilson.

“I am delighted to be joining the Sunday Times as a new columnist,” said Pringle. “The paper has a wide reach, and a readership that reflects a diversity of opinions on Scotland and its future. It is an excellent opportunity to communicate views to an engaged audience across a range of topics.”
