THE former singer of legendary Scottish band Big Country has died at age 66.
Mike Peters worked with the Dunfermline group for a couple of years from 2011, amid a resurgence that included an “emotional hometown show” at the city’s Alhambra.
The Denbighshire-born Welsh musician suffered from blood cancer for three decades before passing from the disease, and was awarded an MBE in 2019 for services to cancer care.
A post on Big Country’s Facebook page expressed heartfelt condolences to his family.
"Bruce, Sandra, Jamie and the band would like to send their heartfelt condolences to Jules, Dylan and Evan following the devastating news of Mike’s passing," the band said. "We are all deeply saddened."
The father of two’s valuable work included co-founding the Love Hope Strength foundation with his wife Jules, using live music events to recruit bone-marrow donors.
Through its Get on the List campaign, the charity has added more than 250,000 people to stem cell registers worldwide.
In his career he was best known for singing with his group The Alarm, which sold around five million records and supported giants such as U2 and Bob Dylan.
