Former Ship Hotel in Pill to be restored creating 39 flats

A former hotel in Newport is set to be refurbished into residential flats. Alexandra Court is on the site of the former Ship Hotel in Pill. The large building will be completely internally redeveloped by Davies Contractors Limited. It is expected the project will be completed in the next nine months.

When finished, the site will boast a total of 39 flats, most of which having one bedroom. The development represents an investment of over £1m. Read more: Newport Market’s underground cellar could be transformed into dining rooms, yoga studio and arcade.

The building was sold at auction in 2020 with the units in need of major refurbishment. The new development represents an investment of over £1 million. When complete, there will be a total of 39 apartments. Most will be one-bedroom, as well as some studio flats and one two-bedroom apartment.

Work is now well underway on the site, which is located on the corner of Alexandra Road and Mill Parade. The building was originally the site of the Ship Hotel, which was converted into residential homes back in the 1970s.

The development is expected to be completed by March 2023. Investors Stay Developed Ltd are managing the development, and say after some initial delays the project is now on track.

Ben Brand, CEO of Stay Developed, said: “We here at Stay Developed Ltd are delighted to be project managing this wonderful property development in Pill, Newport on behalf of the overseas investors that own the property. It is a great feeling knowing that at the end of this project we will be adding 39 new homes to the market for people to live and and helping to regenerate a part of Newport that is sorely in need of investment.”
