Former senior WA Health Department executives hit with dozens of corruption charges

WA Police have laid dozens of fresh charges over corruption allegations within the North Metropolitan Health Service, with two former senior bureaucrats set to face court later this month.

Court records show John Bartliegh Fullerton and David Leslie Mulligan are facing 47 and 10 charges respectively, with most of those allegations of corruption in public office.

The two men were named in a 2018 Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) report, which alleged senior bureaucrats within the health agency received gifts, travel benefits and lavish lunches in exchange for government work.

That CCC report had recommended both men face charges, with the watchdog describing the allegations against them at the time as "staggering".

Five contractors have previously been charged over their roles in the affair.

The claims also prompted substantial governance changes within the North Metropolitan Health Service, which is responsible for facilities including Joondalup Health Campus and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Both Mr Fullerton and Mr Mulligan are due to face court on March 25.

Mr Fullerton is facing more than two dozen charges of fraud and corruption. and one of omitting to make an entry in a record.

Mr Mulligan is facing nine charges of corruption in public office and another of committing to make an entry in a record as a public officer.
