Former Selly Oak hospital transformed into 44 new apartments

An historic former hospital site in Birmingham has been redeveloped into a block of brand new apartments.

Housebuilder Charles Church has transformed the former Selly Oak hospital, close to Selly Oak High Street, into a collection of 44 new one-bed homes.

The apartments feature contemporary, open-plan living spaces, a spacious bedroom with en suite, a bathroom, study and storage facilities.

The Ellis Court development has included the construction of two new wings which lead out from the main central block that was part of the former infirmary.

The scheme has been named after Dr Frederick William Ellis, chief medical officer at the hospital over a century ago, who was lauded for his care and rehabilitation of the city's sick and elderly citizens.

Charles Church Central sales director Sarah Preston said: "We are so proud to be working with such an interesting and historic building, breathing new life into its walls and adapting it to its new important role – creating a safe, high quality and welcoming place to live.

"The proximity of Ellis Court to the QE Hospital and the university, as well as the high-spec of our fixtures and fittings, gives us a real point of difference over other accommodation and is already attracting some discerning customers."
