Former Seahawks special teams standout Chris Maragos announces retirement

Chris Maragos, a special teams ace who most recently played for the Philadelphia Eagles but was a member of the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2013, announced his retirement via Twitter.

Maragos last played during the 2017 season, winning his second Super Bowl ring as a member of the Eagles.

He suffered a major knee injury early that season, one that kept him on the PUP list heading into the 2018 season. He was released by Philadelphia this February. He stated that surgeries and rehab on his knee is what will end his career, which indicates either that his rehab was not going well or that he did not want to risk further injury.

The 32-year-old battled his entire career, first as a walk-on at Western Michigan and again at Wisconsin before he went undrafted and caught on with the 49ers.

After three games with them in 2010 he ended up in Seattle, where he appeared in 43 games across three seasons from 2011-2013, almost exclusively on special teams.

He played the next four seasons with the Eagles, finishing his career with 49 solo tackles, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 99 regular-season games played.
