Former Seahawks receiver Gary Jennings claimed by Dolphins

Seattle Seahawks 2019 fourth round pick, receiver Gary Jennings, was claimed by the Miami Dolphins off waivers on Wednesday.

Jennings was waived by Seattle to make room for fellow fourth round pick, guard Phil Haynes, who was activated off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Jennings never found his footing in Seattle, struggling to learn the offense and hardly contributing during the preseason.

The Seahawks kept him on the roster however, and he held onto a spot on the 53-man despite being listed as a healthy inactive in each of Seattle’s first nine games this season.

Jennings was nearly cut a few weeks ago, with reports surfacing he had been placed on waivers before Seattle changed their mind and cut defensive tackle Bryan Mone instead.

Seattle clearly wanted to hold onto Jennings as long as possible to avoid losing him to waivers, but the team’s recent acquisition of Josh Gordon gave them eight receivers on the active roster, necessitating the move.

Jennings will likely get a chance to contribute for a Dolphins team that just lost receiver Preston Williams to the injured reserve.

The Seahawks will proceed into Monday night’s game without Jennings, but are prepared to have Gordon in the mix against Richard Sherman and the undefeated San Francisco 49ers in Week 10.
