Former Seahawk Cliff Avril’s wife throws him surprise retirement party

Although he last played in the NFL in 2017, former Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril had not celebrated with an official retirement party until Thursday evening when his wife, Tia, threw him a surprise party at the Museum of Pop Culture in downtown Seattle.

Among the many attendees were former Seahawks players Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, Jermaine Kearse, Brandon Mebane, DeShawn Shead, Jeron Johnson, Red Bryant and Michael Bennett, along with current linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Avril spent the last five years of his accomplished 10-year career in Seattle, racking up 34.5 sacks and 88 quarterback hits, while helping lead the team to two Super Bowl appearances.

He was named a Pro Bowler in 2016, but a severe neck injury limited him to just four games in 2017, and eventually ended his playing career at just 31 years old.

Now, Avril has a show on Sports Radio 950 KJR here in Seattle, where he covers the Seahawks.
