Ex-Seahawks RB Alex Collins charged with gun and drug violations, including felony

Former Seattle Seahawks running back Alex Collins was released by the Baltimore Ravens on Friday following his involvement in a single-car crash within a mile of the team’s practice facility.

According to police, Collins was asleep at the wheel when they arrived and officers noticed an odor of marijuana in the vehicle. A search produced a glass jar containing marijuana and a handgun on the floorboard.

Collins told authorities he had lost control of his car in the snow and hit a tree early Friday morning while driving a friend home. The passenger then walked the rest of the way and Collins called a tow truck before falling asleep during the wait.

Collins was arrested, and a search warrant was issued for his house, where officers located two rifles, ammunition and more marijuana.

As a result, Collins was charged with a felony count of intent to distribute marijuana, as well as possession of more than 10 grams of marijuana and possession of a handgun in a vehicle. The latter two charges are misdemeanors.

Collins was released early Saturday on a $7,500 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for March 29.

The Seahawks selected Collins in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was waived before the start of the 2017 season and signed to the Ravens’ practice squad. Promoted shortly thereafter to the active roster, Collins logged 973 yards and six touchdowns on the year. He finished last season on injured reserve.
