Former Scunthorpe midfielder joins Hamilton Accies on two-year deal

Hamilton Academical have completed the signing of Lewis Spence on a two-year deal.

Accies reached an agreement with Scunthorpe for the transfer of the 25-year-old midfielder and he will be available for the Premier Sports Cup clash against Falkirk on Saturday.

The former Rangers academy star has enjoyed spells at Dunfermline, Dundee and Ross County before moving to the Irons.

Spence told Hamilton's website : "I am extremely happy to get the deal done, when I heard about the interest, I was keen to get back up to Scotland and this club brings a great opportunity for me.

“The gaffer has been brilliant, I have had a couple of conversations with him, I’m probably one of the more experienced lads coming in and he has made it clear what he expects of me.”

Accies boss Brian Rice said: “I am glad we have been able to get Lewis in, he is a player I have liked for a long time.

"I tried to get him here last season but we weren’t able to get it done.

“He comes here after making over 40 appearances for Scunthorpe last season and I think he has improved as a player over the last 12 months.

“I was looking to add a bit of experience to the squad and I don’t think there is anyone better than someone who knows what it takes to win this league.”
