Former Scotland rugby league international Adam Walker dies aged just 31

Former Scotland international Adam Walker has passed away at the age of just 31. Walker won 14 caps for his country, featuring at the 2013 World Cup.

He also played domestically for Huddersfield Giants, Hull Kingston Rovers, St Helens, Wakefield Trinity and Salford Red Devils in the Super League, reports The Mirror.

Scotland Rugby League said: "Everyone involved with Scotland Rugby League is saddened to learn of the passing of Adam. Adam played with pride every time he stepped on the pitch for Scotland and was a member of our 2013 World Cup squad and a part of our 2014 European Championship winning squad. Our thoughts are with Adam's family and friends at this time."

Walker, who also had spells with Barrow and Swinton Lions, was last in action with Leigh Centurions although his brief spell came to an end in 2020. A number of his former clubs and teammates have paid tribute to Walker on social media.

Huddersfield legend Eorl Crabtree tweeted: "I was honoured to have shared the field with Adam. My thoughts are with the family."

Former Salford teammate Jackson Hastings tweeted: "One of the best off loaders I've been lucky enough to play alongside. Champion team-mate and someone who was miss understood [sic]. Best wishes to family and close friends during this tough time."

Hull KR, with whom Walker made over 100 appearances, posted: "Hull KR are saddened to learn of Adam Walker's passing. The club's thoughts are with his family and friends."

In 2017, prop Walker was handed a 20-month ban for testing positive drugs test but later returned to action for Salford and reached the 2019 Grand Final.

He is the brother of fellow former rugby league player Jonathan. The cause of his death has not yet been made public.
