Former rugby player and dad-of-two killed in motorbike crash

Tributes have been paid to a father-of-two from west Wales who was killed in a road crash at the weekend.

Marcus John Heighton, who was 31, was involved in a collision between his motorbike and a car on the A484 near the village of Cenarth in Carmarthenshire on Saturday.

Police confirmed he died at the scene.

They said he was the father of two children and a popular former rugby player.

In a statement, his family said: “Marcus, beloved partner of Sam, father to Edee and Georgia, son of Julia and Mike, grandson, brother, uncle and nephew, was tragically taken from us on Saturday, September 21, while riding his motorcycle.

“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“A former Cardigan RFC player, ‘Heights’ was well-known and loved within the community and we, as a family, would like to express our thanks to all those who have sent their condolences at this extremely difficult time.”

The crash happened shortly after 3pm on Saturday afternoon, around a mile to the north of Cenarth.

It involved a red Honda 600 motorcycle, which was being ridden by Mr Heighton, and a white Mitsubishi Shogun.

If you see a crash, this is what you should do:

Police are appealing for witnesses and are asking for anyone with information - or dashcam footage  of the collision - to contact them by calling 101.
